Biography

Marina Vargas was born in Granada in 1980. Lives and works in Madrid (Spain).

Graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Granada in 2003, she later completed her doctorate and a master's degree in Production and Research in Artistic Languages at the same university in 2011.

In her research she reviews the models and archetypes inherited from the traditions of representation in the West, questioning historically formed visual codes to define artistic languages. With the intention of reconstructing the heteropatriarchal vision of images in the history of art, she appropriates painting and sculpture, focusing on themes such as identity, gender and the contradictions inherent in the relationships between individual and power, or the visible and the hidden, prevailing a revisionist symbolism of contemporary identities.

Her work forms part of numerous institutional collections such as those of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Colección Fundación Enaire or Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo among many others.
