YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW: Fábio Colaço
Fábio Colaço, is a young Portuguese artist, who presents his first solo exhibition at ADN Galeria. By inviting viewers to enter into a complex dialogue of references in an exhibition route that fictionalizes the symbolic structure of a house, the visitor can observe the materialization of concerns in our daily lives. A dystopian reality, an intricate web of associations that reflect the structural fabric of time and history.
Opening space for critical reflection, his installation objects transcend the traditional limits of sculpture, his main area of artistic training, using alternative materials and devices, adapting the technical implementation to the investigations and concepts that systematically run through his work. This coherent set of works by the artist reveals a continuous referential concentration of art history and classical culture, demonstrating its symbolic and iconographic power in the context of the contemporary cultural industry. Creative subversion and irony create allegories for renewed interpretations by the viewer. In each work produced, there is an analysis of the current value of collective social traumas, an artistic transaction, which functions in coexistence or in tension, provoking an introspective analysis with the conventions of our economic system, symbolized in this element that integrates several works, as a raw material molded by the artist: money.
In this exhibition, seemingly familiar and banal images and objects are appropriated, metamorphosed, and recontextualized, weaving them into a narrative that addresses contemporary social praxis, interrogating symbolic and social interpretations. A contemporary critical revisionism, a work that plays with and expresses a rebellion against museologically consecrated forms, challenging the way we perceive the abstract space of power. YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW is the opportunity to accept the invitation to discover, for the first time in Spain, the pertinent and poignant work of a Portuguese artist whose works are already recognized and which are part of several collections in Portugal.
