ADESK and ARTS OF THE WORKING CLASS are pleased to present the issue AWC #33: NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH, on Friday, September 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at ADN Galeria, marking the beginning of its circulation in the streets of Barcelona.
The event will feature contributions from María Inés Plaza (AWC), Montse Badia and María Muñoz (ADESK), and Michael Hart (Free Music School).
A*DESK has been the guest editor for this special issue of Arts of the Working Class, a publication that has become a key reference for those seeking to understand the complexity of contemporary cities. This issue, created in dialogue with María Inés Lazo, Pauł Sochacki, and Dalia Maini, centers on a deep reflection about how the intersectional struggles of communities, both local and global, intertwine and shape our daily lives.
Cities, with their relentless gentrification, force us to rethink our ways of life. How do we relate to our surroundings? What impact do our actions, visible or invisible, have on others? This issue of AWC highlights the importance of "neighborhood eyes," making the invisible visible and questioning our position in a world where cities function like multinationals.
Titled Neighborhood Watch/Ojos de Barrio, this collaboration between A*DESK and Arts of the Working Class is not just an exchange of ideas, but a real challenge to reconsider our roles within the capitalist system and to find new ways to connect and support each other. We take advantage of socio-cultural opportunities through Manifesta 15 and Berlin Art Week not only to observe but also to act and contribute to the formation of a more engaged collective consciousness.
