The artist point of departure for the Books for an Unwritten History project is the Fridays for Future (FFF) international movement founded by Greta Thunberg in 2018. Thunberg herself delivers messages that might seem obvious but, nonethe- less, are not being applied in the politics of the many countries which continue leading us towards the total destruction of the natural environment. The artist has taken some of the slogans included in the FFF protests and decontextualized them, turning them into titles of books of a history still to be written. A history full of hope but above all, a history about the future: “Act Now”, “Climate Justice”, “Time is Up”, “Climate Actions”, “Today we Rise”, “We cannot continue to ignore this”, “Respect Existence or Expect Resistance”, “Earth is on Fire”, “Wake up!”, “Science not Silence”, “It Is Our Turn Now”, “Planet Over Profit”, “Coal Kills” and “The End” …He speaks to us of climate justice with messages that affect the future: “No Future without Nature” or “Save the Future”. Here, Avelino Sala sets out a critical analysis by proposing a new role for these slogans while at the same time he analyses the global dimension of environmental conflicts from the visual arts.
