With the term “ideological divertionsim” - that arose in Cuba during the early 1970’s with the intention to “categorize” everything according to ideological criteria - as a starting point, this exhibition gathers a series of works that deal with the ideological and its impact on the individual and on society, by activating aspects such as economics, censorship and the report of obscure situations. The artists, all from different geographical contexts, are posing questions around the systems of belief that has marked our societies and around the way these systems, and their current transformations, globally commits on the activity of the political, economical and cultural institutions on a planetary level. They alert to the need for a state of political awareness on an individual level and, facing the inefficiency of the socioeconomic systems, for a review of economical, ideological and philosophical approaches.

 

On the other hand, the artistic form is not pre-set in these works. Different, multifaceted, “diversionists”, they are not defined by any specific media, language or constructive formulation but by the freedom of expression generated by these ideas. The project also refer to the way in which the works are “diversionists” in them selves, both for their critical dissidence in regard to the environment and the present times, and for the playful component and the reformulation of the very art practice that implies a reflection on the role of art and culture.
