Pólvora. Images of change

Espacio Tangente

The collaborative exhibition “Pólvora. Images of change” will be open for viewing from August 6 to 30, 2024 at Espacio Tangente, Burgos (c/ Valentín Jalón,10).

In the whirlwind of history, gunpowder has been a catalyst for transformations, an agent of change that has ignited the flames of revolution and popular uprising. This exhibition brings together works by artists who explore the concept of revolution from distinct perspectives, offering a deep and reflective look at the power of the people and the struggles for justice and freedom.
Together, these works invite us to reflect on the transformative power of gunpowder, which continues to resonate in our societies and our consciousness. As Malcom X said: “The revolution is always an act of love”, which contradicts Gil Scott-Heron’s idea that “the revolution won’t be televised”. Within in these images of change, we find the courage and hope to continue fighting for a more just and equitable world.

"ORDER, Act I, Eat the Rich/Kill the Poor" by the collective Democracia transports us to an armed demonstration by the New Black Panthers, where empowerment and indignation intertwine in a dance of poetic and philosophical slogans. The work confronts the viewer with the harsh reality of social and economic inequality.

Freedom kick: México” by Eugenio Merino / Indecline invites us to reflect on nationalism and white supremacy through a biting satire. The hyper-realistic head of Donald Trump positioned in front of a Mexican wall confronts us with the contradictions and tensions between physical, cultural and social borders. “According to Trump’s doctor, his health is “astonishing”, which means he should be fit to enjoy a bit of football, as long as everyone defend the flag, of course”.

Sirens” by Regina José Galindo confronts us to violence and oppression faced by individuals in a society torn apart by conflicts and inequalities. The work invites us to reflect on our own responsibility and capacity for action in a world marked by injustice and suffering.
